Health
There are eight nurses working at the School and College, the shift pattern ensures there are qualified staff on site 24 hours a day. The nurses are supported by additional qualified support workers.
All learners have a health summary and individual plan which they contribute to which clearly shows the level of support needed and sets personal targets. Health centre nurses and support staff actively promote the 'person centred approach to medication', working closely with each learner and supporting those learners who self medicate. They also support the curriculum in areas such as sexual health and relationships and healthy lifestyles and nutrition.
Learners have access to a number of clinics held on site including:
- General Practitioner, (GP) from the local surgery
- Consultant clinics
- Ophthalmologist, Optometrist and Orthoptist clinics
- LVA (Low Vision Aids)
- Audiology clinic
- Clinical psychologist
- Plus other specialist clinics as required
Dental and GP appointments can be made for learners off site. Independence is always promoted and encouraged. We also regularly support learners with local hospital appointments off site.
